This is a private reference service, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release a person, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. For a current status or record, contact the agency that created or holds it.
Looking for a Douglas County Record?
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Nathan Chaplin in the research record, is the first contact for current jail population questions and county booking records. Its official page directs users to the sheriff app for the most current updated population. The posted FOIA form and poster offer a request route, but they contain legacy contact details, so verify the recipient with the current sheriff page.

Posted records hours
The FOIA poster lists inspection Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except holidays. The form gives a different general pickup window of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Confirm the current hours before visiting.
Use the county booking and records hub for the full app, FOIA, court, IDOC, and custody-stage path.
- For a mugshot or booking record, ask the sheriff for a named event, date, agency, and photo if maintained and releasable.
- For a possible warrant, use the Circuit Clerk and the safe warrant-confirmation route, then contact the sheriff or court.
- For a recent arrest question, check the sheriff app and the county records request rather than assuming a news article is a live roster.
- For a release or custody alert, use the sheriff’s app and VINELink Illinois.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, use the Illinois DOC offender search.
- For a federal or immigration detainee, use the BOP locator or ICE locator when that custody state is actually relevant.
City Police and Municipal Records
A city police report and a county jail booking are separate records. Send the request to the city when the event is a municipal incident, and to the sheriff when the question concerns county custody or a jail photograph.
